Evie wanted to plant flowers and I wanted to get rid of the monkey grass around our mailbox. I found kalanchoe plants that were pretty, need full sun, and can survive drought conditions. My original plan was to put them all around the mailbox, but we discovered that there is concrete between the mailbox and the road. Another complication was that the monkey grass had taken over the real grass all the way over to our driveway. We are thinking about getting river rock or pavers to put around the mailbox to define the flowerbed area. It looks a little weird right now. Phil wanted to put a 4th kalanchoe plant beside the driveway, but the accountant in me screams that would ruin the symmetry. Any suggestions or advice are welcome!

Look around your neighborhood at all the clematis vines growing at mailboxes - they are easy & Evie could have her purple blooms, too!
That would help fill the front area or you could place a pot in front.
You can balance out the defining lines on either side of the mailbox.
I know she's happy to have helped plant the flowers - this is what we talk about on our little neighborhood walks!
